Our core curriculum is mastered through applied instruction, work study, and service, to empower students for active roles in our global community.The following are the practical ways we implement our educational philosophy:
Academics
The specific academic requirements for graduation are

4 levels of English
3 Science disciplines:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics

3 courses of Social Studies:

  • American History
  • American Government
  • World History

4 Units in Math selected from:

  • Algebra 1A, 1B, or 2
  • Geometry
  • Pre Calculus
  • Calculus

4 levels of Bible
Health and Physical Education
Also we offer the following electives as part of our academic training:

  • Accounting
  • Computer Applications
  • Drawing
  • Art
  • Foreign Language
  • Ensemble
  • Small Choir

Vocational Training/Applied Skills

The practical aspects of our educational philosophy are gained in

2 levels of Applied Skills taught in Vocational disciplines; Vocational classes we offer are

  • Digital Photography
  • Woodworking
  • Auto Mechanics
  • Radio Broadcasting
  • Electrical
  • Auto Mechanics
  • Medical Missionary

To graduate students must meet requirements of our Work Credit, which includes

  • Working in our Nursing Home
  • Cafeteria
  • Construction and maintenance projects

Also students are taught gardening skills in 2 levels of Agriculture

Spiritual and Character Development

Spiritual and Character building development is furthered by completing
4 levels of Bible class
And attending Worship services, which include

  • Morning and Evening worship in the students respective dorms
  • Morning chapel for freshman, sophomores and any other student who is not scheduled for work (Juniors and Seniors are usually scheduled to work in the mornings)
  • Wednesday afternoon chapel
  • Friday night Vespers service
  • Sabbath worship at local SDA church
  • Saturday evening sundown worship

Also there are many outreach activities which are planned and optional for students, such as (but not limited to)

  • Choir and ensemble performances at churches and shelters far and near
  • Sharing literature door-to-door on Sabbath afternoons
  • Medical Missionary opportunities with the public
  • Participation in our Christ-centered Radio ministry
  • Evangelistic and Service Mission Trips
  • Literature Evangelism

We offer many opportunities for our students to develop physically and socially, some of these classes and activities include

  • Health and Physical Education class
  • Recreation time Saturday evening
  • School camp-outs
  • Planned activities and field trips (including but not limited to nature hikes, town trips and attending many conventions)
  • Student Association
  • Vespers committee
  • Yearbook committee
  • Traveling to share their talents in frequent performances

Our students come here from around the world and frequently enjoy various athletic activities right here on campus and during trips to local parks.

Music

Music is an important aspect of the experience here at Harbert Hills. Some of the many opportunities for students to grow and develop their musical talents include

  • Large and Small Choir class
  • Small Choir, Large Choir and Ensemble performance trips
  • Leading out in numerous opportunities on campus for song service
  • Special music performances
  • Many opportunities to develop musical gifts with other students during time set aside for practice.
  • Song requests at the WDNX radio station when students are working there on Fridays.

Missions and Outreach

Every year the staff at Harbert Hills coordinates Mission trips for the Seniors and all the students are also given opportunity to participate in a mission trip either her in the U.S. or abroad.
